Is the Three House Hotel worth it? Our review
The Appart’hôtel Three House totally won us over. In fact, it’s one of the best hotels in Funchal! In addition to its central location, it boasts a magnificent rooftop with bar and swimming pool. We spent a delightful time looking out over the city’s rooftops and the ocean, while sipping a cocktail with our feet in the water. At dusk, the sun’s reflections were reflected in the pool, making the scene all the more magical!
Decoration and atmosphere
Apart from the apartments, the common areas are also decorated with great taste and style. Nothing was left to chance! We found a warm and soothing atmosphere, with a mix of antique furniture, green plants, natural materials and decorative objects from other parts of the world. Every corner of the rooftop seems to have been designed as a living space in its own right, conducive to relaxation and contemplation.
On the first floor there’s a boutique where you can buy any of the hotel’s decorations that catch your eye! It’s a veritable Ali Baba’s cave for lovers of design and crafts. In this way, you can extend your hotel experience by taking a little piece of its unique world home with you.

The apartment
Our apartment exuded comfort and elegance, blending contemporary design with bohemian influences. Each object seemed to have its own story: the owner, an avid traveler, hunted all over the world for unique pieces to create a warm decor. The kitchen, open to the living room, was fully equipped with Smeg appliances. She really invited us to cook, preferably with local products!
When we arrived, we found on the kitchen counter a packet of local cookies, a well-stocked fruit basket, and everything we needed to make ourselves a cup of tea or coffee. We’ve fallen in love with the cups from French brand Le Creuset, which are as pretty as they are practical – a real treat for tea lovers like us!
Our favorite room, however, was the bedroom. We felt instantly soothed, enveloped in a relaxing ambience, with its light tones enhanced by discreet touches of soft colors. The decor was down to the smallest detail, from well-chosen natural materials to attractive electrical outlets. A true bubble of tranquility in the heart of the city!

The bathroom
The bathroom was equipped with a walk-in shower and decorated more soberly than the rest of the apartment. We appreciated the wooden cabinet supporting the washbasin, the soap dish carved into the rock, the pretty speckled floor, and the amenities provided: Damana brand products, fluffy bathrobes and comfortable slippers.

The breakfast
We don’t offer the classic breakfast service, and with good reason: the apartments are fully equipped, making it easy to prepare your own meals. But those with a sweet tooth will be delighted to know that a small bag of freshly baked pastries can be discreetly hung on your door every morning if you so request. And for brunch lovers, don’t miss the weekend brunch offered by the hotel’s rooftop restaurant: a great opportunity to enjoy a gourmet moment with a view over Funchal!

Perched on the hotel’s rooftop, the panoramic swimming pool is undoubtedly one of the hotel’s major assets! Surrounded by comfortable deckchairs and sofas, it offers breathtaking views of Funchal’s rooftops, the mountains in the background and the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you’re looking for a morning dip, a refreshing break during the day or a moment of relaxation at sunset, this rooftop will quickly become a must-see during your stay!
Equipment and common areas
Appart’hôtel Three House also features a small boutique selling home decor and clothing on the first floor, a freely accessible filtered water fountain, and a laundry room where you can clean your clothes. All these services are designed to make the experience as pleasant as it is independent, whether you’re staying one night or several weeks.
The restoration
The appart’hôtel doesn’t just have exceptional surroundings, it also takes care of the food! Its rooftop features a cosy bar where we ordered house cocktails, which we then enjoyed by the pool. The hotel’s restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, offers a creative menu combining local produce and Mediterranean inspiration. A real plus for those who want to enjoy the place all the way, without having to go outside.

Where is the hotel?
The establishment is located in the heart of downtown Funchal at 2 Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot.
- 20min drive from Madeira Airport,
- 1min walk from Mercado dos Lavradores,
- 6min walk from Sé Cathedral,
- 10-minute walk from theJesuit College Church.
How to get there?
To explore the island, we strongly recommend renting a car as soon as you arrive at the airport. The hotel is easily accessible by car. Just take the main road ER101 for about 15min, then exit at ER204. Then take the Caminho do Terço and continue straight on to Rua Conde Carvalhal. It leads to Rua do Visconde de Anadia, where you must turn twice to reach Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot. The entrance to the parking lot is at the front of the Oudinot shopping center, where the apartment hotel is located. Drive very slowly so you don’t miss it!

Parking
The hotel has reserved parking spaces in an underground parking lot within the same complex. You can reach the parking lot directly by taking the apartment hotel’s elevator. Please note, however, that the entrance is very narrow, and a small vehicle is required to maneuver around it.

Appart’hôtel Three House is adapted for people with reduced mobility, with spacious apartments and elevators to access the various floors. Dedicated parking spaces are available in the underground garage.
