Why stay in Porto Santo?
We loved discovering Porto Santo for its unspoilt natural setting. In addition to its unique landscapes, we enjoyed outdoor activities such as snorkeling and hiking. We have very fond memories of our trip, especially of the sunrise, which we’ve immortalized below!
In fact, it doesn’t matter where you decide to stay, whether in the north or south of the island. A 10-minute drive will take you from Ponta da Calheta to Vila Baleira. Hotels are concentrated in this area, which borders the long beach of Porto Santo. They benefit from direct access to the sandy expanse, and breathtaking ocean views!

Other useful tips to keep in mind
We highly recommend renting a car during your stay in Porto Santo. You’ll enjoy many exceptional views of the island and the ocean. Most hotels have parking facilities.
Driving is easy on the main road linking one end of the island to the other. As you move inland, some roads may be much narrower or covered in rocks. We recommend you opt for a 4-wheel drive vehicle to climb to the top of the watchtowers.

1. Hotel Torre Praia (4 stars, beach access)
Why stay there?
Settled on the hotel terrace facing the ocean, we enjoyed a moment suspended in time. As we ate breakfast, we watched the sun rise above Pico de Baixo. Warmed by its first rays, we sipped our tea, marvelling at the view before us.
As you can see, our stay at the Hotel Torre Praia was a complete success! From the balcony of our room, we could see the palm trees shaken by the wind, the pool and even the ocean. The direct access to the beach was particularly pleasant for a stroll at dusk. Take advantage of this unique setting to enjoy an exceptional stay in Porto Santo!
At the center of the reception area stands an astonishing tower preserved by the hotel. It’s the remains of an old cement factory. The summit has been converted into a panoramic reading room.

If you’re looking for family-friendly accommodation in Porto Santo, we highly recommend staying at the Hotel Pestana Resort & Spa. Ideally located on the coast equidistant from Vila Baleira and Ponta da Calheta, it boasts a private beach where we enjoyed swimming!
Our room was particularly spacious. From the balcony, we could contemplate the swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and deckchairs. The all-inclusive formula will save you time and trouble at mealtimes. This resort is particularly well-suited to families in search of tranquillity and entertainment.

The facility boasts a huge, curved outdoor pool that winds its way through the palm trees. You’ll find a second, much smaller, covered one.

4. Hotel Vila Baleira Suites (4 stars, beach access)
Why stay there?
As soon as we walked into this hotel, we immediately felt at ease. The decor was particularly elegant, with bohemian overtones. Natural hues and rough-hewn wooden furniture lent a relaxed atmosphere to the space. The communal lounge was an invitation to relax.
As we walked through reception, we discovered the breathtaking ocean views from the outdoor terrace. With a large swimming pool, you can alternate between swimming and sunbathing in total relaxation. Head to the pool bar to sip a cocktail in these exotic surroundings!

From our large swimming pool, you can soak up the sun and discover the island’s rolling countryside. There’s also a children’s play area. Relax in this peaceful setting just a few metres from the ocean!
