Why stay at the Royal Savoy Hotel in Madeira?
This luxury hotel offers a heavenly setting for your stay. In fact, it’s one of our picks for the best establishments in Funchal. Here are its 3 main assets, in our opinion:
- High-quality amenities: magnificent outdoor pools, spa area, indoor pool, gym, children’s play area, and above all, private ocean access! It’s the ideal place to relax and recharge your batteries during your trip to the island. We swam along the seawall in Madeira’s clear waters.
- Strategic location: ideally situated to the west of Funchal city center, the hotel is just a few meters from the ferry departure point for Porto Santo Island, and close to the CR7 Museum. We walked just 20min to the picturesque old town.
- Unique setting: this large, multi-storey hotel complex is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Around the outdoor pools, we noticed remnants of fortifications that add a lot of character to the place. The establishment combines old-world charm with modern facilities. The view of the island’s turquoise waters from the little tower won us over!

Absolutely! The Hôtel Royal Savoy is a luxury hotel in a prime location, offering a host of top-class amenities. It’s one of the best 5-star hotels in Madeira, and one of the best beachfront establishments too. It guarantees a relaxing, luxurious and unforgettable stay for travelers in search of optimum comfort. The view from our room totally blew us away!
Decoration and atmosphere
At the Hôtel Royal Savoy, the atmosphere is both chic and relaxed. As soon as we entered the establishment, we were charmed by the lounge bar opposite reception. It offers breathtaking panoramic ocean views. In this elegant and welcoming setting, we sipped a cocktail overlooking the bay of Funchal.
The decor is designed with a touch of artistic flair, bringing a touch of originality and refinement to the hotel complex. Numerous works of art hang on the walls in the common areas. We really liked the heterogeneous furnishings. The sofas, armchairs, tables and lighting fixtures were all different, but worked well together.

The room
The decoration of our room was both traditional and refined. We particularly liked the original lighting fixtures with organic feet. The desk area with a vintage mirror, the worked wooden headboard, the patterns on the floor and armchairs, and the long curtains created a coherent, cosy whole. The room was particularly spacious, and even boasted a small dressing room, very practical for extended stays.
The walls were adorned with frames depicting boats, natural elements and even porcelain tableware. The piece was full of references to local know-how. When we arrived, we found a glass bottle of water, a small bottle of Madeira wine and fresh fruit in the room, which helped make our experience all the more pleasant.
Light flooded into the room through the bay window, which opened onto a charming balcony. As soon as we woke up, we settled in to watch the sunrise, lulled by the movement of the ocean waves. It was a unique experience that we won’t soon forget!

The bathroom
In our room, the bathroom was particularly spacious. It was equipped with both a shower and a bathtub, offering a choice between the 2 options for freshening up. The toilet was located in a recess at the back of the room.
We also found hygiene products from the Guerlain cosmetics brand, which added a touch of luxury to our stay. We were also provided with a bathrobe and slippers for optimum comfort.

The breakfast
Breakfast at the hotel takes the form of an extensive buffet with a variety of choices to suit all tastes. We were able to sample local products such as the famous pastel de Nata, a delicious traditional pastry. We appreciated the diversity of products on offer, whether sweet (cakes, pastries, doughnuts, yoghurts, sliced fruit, range of breads) or savory (cooked vegetables, scrambled eggs, fresh salmon, ham, cheeses).
It is also possible to order dishes such as pancakes and eggs prepared directly on site. We had breakfast on the outdoor terrace facing the pool, so we could take full advantage of the island’s sunshine.

Swimming pools and beach
As you wander through the palm-lined avenues, you’ll discover superb outdoor pools heated to between 26 and 29°C and equipped with jets. One of them features a pool bar where you can sit directly in the water. A pool is reserved for young children. The spa area also features an indoor swimming pool.
The hotel has a private, unsupervised beach with access to the ocean. Equipped with swimming goggles, we walked along the rocks lining the pontoon. This is a unique experience in Madeira, as there are very few beaches on the island.
Equipment and common areas
Hotel Royal Savoy offers its guests treatments and massages in the spa area. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the fitness room. Families will love the children’s facilities, including a giant chess set, ping-pong table and other surprises. In fact, it’s one of the best family-friendly hotels in Madeira!
The establishment features a small fort and large indoor common areas decorated with works of art. It also offers clubs and activities to energize your vacation. These facilities offer plenty of opportunities for entertainment and relaxation during your stay.
The restoration
The hotel has several bars, including one with a breathtaking view over Funchal bay. It is also home to Restaurant La Armada, open for breakfast and dinner between 7 and 10 pm. It offers à la carte dishes as well as an extensive buffet.
