Is the Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago worth it? Our review
In our opinion, this is the best hotel in Funchal! We fell in love with this charming, authentic establishment overlooking the city. Its magnificent, perfectly manicured garden, and the 18th-century building in which we were lucky enough to stay, make it a true haven of peace.

Decoration and atmosphere
One of Madeira’s finest boutique hotels, this stylish establishment boasts rooms each better decorated than the next. We liked the decor, with its mix of vintage and traditional elements, which retained the charm of the past. The omnipresence of wood and the play of light throughout the hotel created a comforting atmosphere, inviting guests to relax and unwind.

Colorful climbing plants adorned the facade of the historic building, giving it a wild charm. The garden never ceases to amaze us with its little bridges, water features, flower-covered arches and views over the rooftops of Funchal! Let yourself be enchanted by this enchanting place!

The room
Our room had plenty of character, and a pleasant balcony overlooking the lush garden. Between the four-poster bed, the floral-patterned sofa, the paintings hanging on the walls in gilded frames, and the vintage décor elements, the room was truly authentic. The dark wood furniture, the noisy parquet floor typical of an 18th-century building, and the English tea room corner all added to the room’s charm. We felt like we’d stepped back in time in this old-fashioned room!

In the room, we also found a kettle, Dammann Frères tea bags, milk pods, a glass bottle of water, fresh fruit and a safe. The biggest highlight of our room was undoubtedly the magnificent black and white checkerboard balcony overlooking the flourishing vegetation!

The bathroom
Our bathroom was very large and decorated with a pretty Portuguese motif on the tiles. It was equipped with both a shower and a bathtub. We found hygiene products from the Prija cosmetics brand, a bathrobe and slippers at our disposal.

A small handmade ceramic plate and fresh flowers like birds of paradise added a touch of luxury to the room. We also noticed that the bathrobes were embroidered with the hotel’s name.

The breakfast
The hotel breakfast takes the form of an opulent buffet, revealing a variety of sweet and savory foods: cold cuts, cheeses, salads, breads, cakes, pastries, cereals, yogurts and fresh fruit. The room in which breakfast is served is decorated with great care, blending refinement and tradition.

Homemade dishes are also available to hotel guests à la carte. We were delighted with the tasty eggs Benedictes and fresh waffles. We had breakfast on the outdoor terrace to take advantage of the island’s sunny climate. The crockery was equally elegant.
