We made our own choices, visited the area anonymously, and paid our bills in full.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Madeira&#8217;s best gardens: tips<\/h2>\n\n<p>Madeira is, among other things, famous for its flowers and lush gardens. The island&#8217;s mild, humid climate makes it possible to grow a wide variety of plants, from tropical species to endemic flowers: in the gardens you&#8217;ll discover exceptional trees, collections of cacti and tropical plants and, often, beautiful views of the surrounding area.<br\/>If you only need to make one, we recommend it:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Monte Palace Tropical Garden: a must-see!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unless you have difficulty getting around, in which case we recommend Funchal&#8217;s municipal garden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Almost all the gardens are located around Funchal.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Our review<\/h3>\n\n<p>The Monte Palace Tropical Garden, designed by Jos\u00e9 Berardo, is one of Madeira&#8217;s most beautiful gardens. Situated high above Funchal, it offers breathtaking views of the city and the ocean. The garden boasts an impressive collection of tropical and subtropical plants, as well as sculptures, ponds and waterfalls.<\/p>\n\n<p>The garden is divided into several sections, each with its own theme. Our review<\/h3>\n\n<p>The Funchal Botanical Garden is one of the most important botanical gardens in Portugal. Located on the Bom Successo estate, it houses an impressive collection of tropical and subtropical plants from all over the world. But we recommend you spend more time with the plants you can only find on Maderia and the other Atlantic islands (around 2,000!).<\/p>\n\n<p>The garden is divided into several sections<strong>,<\/strong> each with its own theme. He called it a garden, but in our eyes, it&#8217;s not really a garden&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parque de Santa Catarina (Quinta Vigia)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/9e-Funchal-museums\/i-KF6kn3r\/2\/CWjbqnPFjtLwqCm9Z5qrKFHJpRxfd8X7VPxbMMh9C\/L\/Funchal_park_Madeira-7204363-L.jpg\" alt=\"Parque de Santa Catarina\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>To the west of Funchal&#8217;s old town, there&#8217;s a small city park surrounding a villa: Quinta Vigia. Here you&#8217;ll find beautiful trees and a few water features.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jardim das Plantas Ind\u00edgenas da Madeira<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4-Sao-Vicente\/i-3BVp3km\/2\/3adaf92a\/L\/garden_Sao_Vicente_Madeira-7141262-L.jpg\" alt=\"Jardim das Plantas Ind&#xED;genas da Madeira\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In the town of Sao Vicente, on Madeira&#8217;s north coast, you&#8217;ll find a tiny free garden in the town center, with a few signs in front of around 50 trees and plants. These species are native to Madeira.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other parks in Madeira<\/h2>\n\n<p>But in addition to the gardens, the whole island is a garden.<br\/>You can enjoy every outing if you love trees and plants.<br\/>Here are a few more ideas for enjoying Madeira&#8217;s vegetation.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fanal Forest Park<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4b-Fanal-Forest\/i-H5tv9VJ\/1\/e86d56f0\/L\/Fanal_Forest_Madeira-7151829-L.jpg\" alt=\"fun trees at Parc Forestier de Fanal\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>On the Paul da Serra plateau, you&#8217;ll find the Unesco natural heritage site of Laurel Forest.<br\/>The island and much of southern Europe were once covered by this native forest. Madeira is home to one of the largest remaining plots.<br\/>Here you can easily discover rolling meadows and twisted trees. It&#8217;s absolutely enchanting. You can let your imagination run wild, and see magical shapes in these trees. What do you think of the tree in the photo above?<\/p>\n\n<p>Funchal to Fanal forest = 1h drive<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parque Florestal das Quiemadas<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/13c-Parque-Floresto-das-Quiemadas\/i-bxrm7ZP\/1\/14e62c0a\/L\/Parque_Florestal_das_Queimadas_Madeira-7241127-L.jpg\" alt=\"Parque Florestal das Quiemadas - house and garden\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Located at an altitude of 850 meters on Madeira Island, Parque Florestal das Queimadas is a haven of peace for nature lovers. This 230-hectare park offers a multitude of hiking trails, spectacular scenery and flora unique in the world.<\/p>\n\n<p>The surroundings of the parking lot alone are interesting, even if you don&#8217;t hike.<br\/>But do at least the very beginning of the Levada do Caldeir\u00e3o hike to see some beautiful trees (before reaching the edge of the levada).<\/p>\n\n<p>North coast of Madeira. Next to Santana.  <br\/>From Funchal: 1h drive<br\/>The parking lot fills up quickly and there&#8217;s little room to walk along the levada.
