We enjoyed discovering its native and exotic plant species. It&#8217;s ideal for a stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy the trails and peaceful atmosphere. The Jardin Municipal do Monte is a charming public garden located in the town of Monte on the heights of Funchal, just below the famous church (which is very photogenic).<br\/>This small garden offers an oasis of greenery and tranquillity, perfect for a relaxing stroll. In particular, we spotted beautiful tree ferns, reminiscent of those found along the <a href=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/en\/best-levadas-madeira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Levada do Moinho<\/a>, which runs through the Laurisilva Forest.<\/p>\n\n<p>We also loved the colorful flowers that cheerfully punctuate the verdant landscape and add a romantic touch to this peaceful setting.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Madeira-Lovers\/Funchal\/Gardens\/Monte-garden-church\/i-T2Mxmdv\/1\/KzWSdc6wWx668RJsw4NFxDKHZ7NKTwCbvVL63Xghj\/L\/Monte_Municipal_garden_Madeira-7193944-L.jpg\" alt=\"Monte Public Garden (Funchal)\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Century-old trees<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>During your visit, keep an eye out for several hundred-year-old trees lurking along the paths! We liked this nod to Madeira&#8217;s volcanic origins. Also known as the Funchal Toboggans, this is a picturesque means of transport consisting of wicker sleds mounted on wooden runners, guided by two men called<em>&#8220;carreiros<\/em> &#8220;. In fact, their stand is located at the foot of the Jardin Municipal de Monte. Built in the 18th century, it is the island&#8217;s most important pilgrimage site.<\/p>\n\n<p>We liked its black and white facade, another reminder of Madeira&#8217;s volcanic origins. Its grand staircase gives it a majestic air.
