Igreja do Jardim do Mar<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-dW6PfH7\/2\/CX2bJ5JSvxcdwMSm6b35jxLd8LqVDfWrdCKHd2M3m\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-8873-L.jpg\" alt=\"Igreja do Jardim do Mar\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right in the heart of the village, next to the parking lot, your first stop is the most inspiring building: the little church of Notre-Dame du Rosaire.<br\/>It features the island&#8217;s typical color scheme, with white lime and darker edges.<br\/>But it&#8217;s surprisingly full of arches and decorations, especially at the top of the square tower.<br\/>Inside, it is richly decorated with paintings on the ceiling.<br\/>A parish had long existed, but the new parish church was blessed in 1907.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-BwWR7nD\/2\/DTbd9HLj5fbr5d9ZDF9H27tvQ4MwbMNR2swzxVrjh\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152086-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opposite is a representation of Senhora de Rosario, in the typical blue of Portuguese Azuleos.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We have no firm information on opening times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Explore alleyways<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-dkPhc2z\/2\/Dq8WzbpbLnFkZk44Dxv3Zswj4j4Lp4DctjXQ5JtHG\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152101-L.jpg\" alt=\"Jardim do Mar alley\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jardim do Mar is the most village-like of the villages. In fact, there are few main streets here, but mostly alleyways to explore on foot. It&#8217;s a real labyrinth!<br\/>They&#8217;re made of pretty cobblestones with colorful houses and little glimpses of the sea.<br\/>The place is very picturesque.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-g8ZQqVg\/2\/DMjQZr8gdhtFgBvJfHGqbPK44tQHhWHwN4CBDTrnV\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152097-L.jpg\" alt=\"sea view\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From time to time to take a driveway to discover beautiful sea views but these will be cul-de-sacs that go just a few houses away. The seafront promenade<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-ZGMvccK\/2\/C5WKPKsHD6JDZsq6SvxQPFkvPvxGMKhpg76d2kqdT\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152106-L.jpg\" alt=\"access to the seafront promenade\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the lanes, you can descend the stairs into a beautiful garden to reach the seafront promenade.<br\/>In our opinion, it&#8217;s one of the most beautiful on the island. The area is famous for its waves, and we love the sound of the surf as we walk.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-BtvNccs\/2\/jgHWFwsKkkVp49wQcRMgC29mrmfsNB2w4XRX4G6D\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152113-L.jpg\" alt=\"Stroll along the Jardim do Mar waterfront.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once down, you can explore from one end to the other with beautiful views of cliffs, plantations and the sea.<br\/>The path is wide and easy to walk. It&#8217;s great because there&#8217;s no car jack-knifing next to you!<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Jardim do Mar seafront promenade is about 700m long.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you can&#8217;t get down the stairs, there are a few parking spaces to the south of the village, at sea level, at Praia do Portinho, but we can&#8217;t guarantee a space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container box gb-block-container\" style=\"background-color:#edf8cc;margin-top:6%;margin-bottom:6%\"><div class=\"gb-container-inside\"><div class=\"gb-container-content\" style=\"max-width:700px\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/en\/ebook-travel-guide-madeira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/inpost-Madeira-Lovers-EN.jpg\" alt=\"inpost Madeira Lovers FR\" class=\"wp-image-7160\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The beach: Praia do Portinho<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-cBnK7Sh\/2\/ChxRjcvbZRnDk5rPSPZLNHhfkb5W7xS8pgHTQcggv\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-7152120-L.jpg\" alt=\"The concrete beach: Praia do Portinho\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jardim do Mar has no real beach, but a concrete one: a boat ramp that serves as access to the water.<br\/>Be careful, there are lots of waves, so it&#8217;s not ideal for swimming.<br\/>But it&#8217;s a very popular spot for surfers, and there&#8217;s a surf school.<br\/>Some say it&#8217;s even one of Europe&#8217;s best surf spots, but we don&#8217;t have the experience to confirm that.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Ruins of the sugar mill (Engeho de Canas)<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/4j-Jardim-do-Mar\/i-bRGPpdc\/2\/vFTQR8TvxgcgCmN9FVnfrZQkCKVwRGBTsvNBXwZF\/L\/Jardim_do_Mar_Madeira-8878-L.jpg\" alt=\"former sugar cane mill.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South of the seafront promenade, you may notice the ruins of a factory. This was the old sugar cane mill.<br\/>Sugar production was a major boost for Madeira&#8217;s economy.<br\/>It&#8217;s an essential part of Madeira&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n\n<div
