ER228 + ER 105 with Miradouro de Terra Grande<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/5b-drive-valley\/i-n7F3248\/2\/DqKv9MKRLX96CHh24HNFCs5wCzCD5SrgSpct2V5RQ\/L\/Miradouro_Terra_Grande_Madeira-7162606-L.jpg\" alt=\"view from Miradouro de Terra Grande\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the road<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our big favorite in Madeira was the ER228 road, combined with the southern part of the ER105 to descend to <a href=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/en\/best-things-to-do-ribeira-brava-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ribeira Brava<\/a>. We weren&#8217;t expecting it, but the views are there at every turn, sometimes towards the sea, sometimes towards the valleys inland.<br\/>This is the old road that took you north to <a href=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/en\/things-to-do-sao-vicente-madeira-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sao Vincente<\/a> (before the tunnel was built). Don&#8217;t miss the Miradouro das Cabanas viewpoint (Beira da Quinta) and the  <br\/>Then, between Arco de Sao Jorge and Boaventura, the road makes a large loop inside the valley. ER109 to Ponta de Sao Louren\u00e7o and its detours<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Madeira\/2b-Ponta-do-Rosto\/i-WHQqnRG\/2\/CvSXWCkp4Np7W7g9wVNcDpcmgPrLMLRzrvwCrFXB6\/L\/Ponta_do_rosto_Madeira-8501-L.jpg\" alt=\"Ponta do Rosto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ponta do Rosto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the road<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This road doesn&#8217;t have the best views from your car, but it does lead to some exceptional landscapes that are truly different from the rest of Madeira Island.<br\/>This road is at the heart of the peninsula, and offers views sometimes to the north and sometimes to the south, without the lush vegetation you&#8217;ll find elsewhere. You can see the volcanic rocks sculpted by erosion.<br\/>On the way, enjoy the view of Prainha Beach, and take the detour to <a href=\"https:\/\/madeiralovers.com\/en\/miradouro-ponta-do-rosto-madeira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Miradouro Ponta do Rosto<\/a>. The views are worth the extra 2 min drive!<br\/>And even if you don&#8217;t do the Ponta de Sao Louran\u00e7o hike, drive to the end of the road, get out of the car and enjoy the sea air. The route passes through Ribeiro Frio and ends at Faial beach.<br\/>The road isn&#8217;t the most spectacular, but it takes you right into the heart of the island&#8217;s vegetation. Many shades of green.
