We were immediately seduced by its magnificent coastal promenade, perfect for strolling along at sunset, and its famous beach complex with saltwater pools and direct access to the ocean. More out of the way than the historic center, it offers a quieter yet very practical setting.

Why sleep in the Lido district (west of Funchal)?
Staying in Funchal’s Lido district has many advantages. It’s known for its beautiful coastal promenade, the popular Lido beach complex with its saltwater pools and easy access to the sea. The area is well served by reliable bus services to the city center and other parts of Madeira. Here you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants, bars and stores, allowing you to enjoy a lively yet relaxed atmosphere.

Benefits:
- Good choice of hotels, restaurants and shops nearby.
- Swimming: in addition to the hotels’ private beaches, the Lido bathing complex is highly regarded.
- Walking: the seafront promenade is very pleasant.
- Viewpoints: incredible views of the bay.
- Public transport: there are plenty of buses to get you quickly to the old town of Funchal.
Disadvantages:
- Very busy: you’ll mainly come across tourists.
- Less traditional: this area is relatively modern, so it doesn’t have the same cachet as the old town.
- Distance: allow at least 30min to reach the historic center on foot.
- Concrete beaches: not as comfortable as sandy beaches.

Off-center from downtown Funchal, this hotel boasts a privileged coastal location. Its architecture took us by surprise! The main building is circular and multi-storey. It dominates the bay.
Between the huge outdoor pool, private ocean access, restaurant and other amenities, we loved staying here. Our room had a panoramic balcony. We fell asleep, lulled by the movement of the waves. This unique experience leaves us with an unforgettable memory! Although it’s a hotel chain, this establishment has some unique features that really set it apart from the rest. It’s one of the best beachfront hotels in Madeira!

From here, it’s just a 5-minute walk to the Praia do Gorgulho – Gavinas. It’s a pleasant little concrete beach, typical of Madeira.
